Airport cargo clearance
Once your funeral home releases the remains and the airline issues the Airway Bill, SureRest takes responsibility at the Nigerian airport. You do not need to coordinate locally or navigate Nigerian cargo procedures yourself.
What this service is
Airport cargo clearance is the formal process of receiving human remains from the airline cargo terminal and completing all required government and airport formalities before the remains can leave the airport. In Nigeria this involves presenting the correct documentation to airport authorities and cargo handlers, and satisfying any checks required by the relevant government bodies at the point of entry. SureRest handles every step of this process at the receiving airport.
Why it matters
For a family grieving abroad, coordinating Nigerian airport clearance from overseas is one of the most stressful parts of repatriation. Requirements, contact points, and timelines can be unclear, and a missed document or wrong procedure can mean significant delays. Having a representative physically present at the airport, who knows the process and the people involved, removes that uncertainty at an already difficult time.
How SureRest handles it
Once the Airway Bill is issued and flight details are confirmed, SureRest prepares the required documentation package and dispatches a representative to the receiving airport at the expected time of arrival. That representative liaises directly with the airline cargo office and the relevant airport authorities, presents all paperwork, and oversees release of the remains from the cargo terminal. SureRest currently covers Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, and Uyo.
What to expect
You will be notified when SureRest's representative is at the airport and again when the remains have been successfully released. From that point, SureRest arranges onward transport to the mortuary or family destination as part of the wider repatriation service. If there is any delay, for example due to a flight change or a documentation query, you will be contacted and kept informed rather than left waiting for news.
We are ready to help you bring them home.
Reach out whenever you are ready. A member of our team will respond with care, and there is no obligation in making contact.
