The documentation we coordinate on your behalf.

Bringing a loved one home to Nigeria involves a clear set of documents. We guide and coordinate this paperwork with you and with the funeral home abroad, so nothing is missed.

  • Death certificate
  • Embalming certificate
  • Free-from-infectious-disease certificate
  • Sealing certificate (where applicable)
  • Passport of the deceased
  • Consular or embassy authorisation

Questions families often ask.

A few of the questions we hear most often. If yours is not here, we are always glad to talk it through.

How do I begin the repatriation process?

You can begin by contacting our team through the form on our Contact page or by phone. Tell us where your loved one is now and where they need to come home to in Nigeria. We take it from there and stay with you at every step.

Which cities in Nigeria do you cover?

We regularly handle repatriation into Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, and Uyo, and we can arrange onward transport to other destinations on request. If your destination is not listed, please ask and we will help.

What documents are needed to bring a loved one home?

Repatriation to Nigeria usually involves a death certificate, an embalming certificate, a free-from-infectious-disease certificate, a sealing certificate where applicable, the passport of the deceased, consular or embassy authorisation, the Airway Bill, and the flight and cargo information. We guide and coordinate this paperwork with you and with the funeral home abroad.

What does SureRest handle, and what does my family handle?

We handle the Nigerian side: documentation support, airport reception, cargo clearance after the Airway Bill, local transport, and keeping everyone updated. The funeral home or mortuary abroad prepares and ships the remains. We coordinate directly with them so the two sides connect smoothly.

Do you work with funeral homes and mortuaries abroad?

Yes. We act as the trusted Nigeria-side partner for funeral homes and mortuaries overseas. We coordinate the handover, the documentation, and the clearance so the family receives one clear, dignified service. Funeral directors can reach us through our For Funeral Homes Abroad page.

How long does repatriation to Nigeria take?

Timelines depend on the country your loved one is travelling from, how quickly the documentation is completed, and flight availability. Once we understand your situation, we will give you a realistic and honest estimate, and keep you updated as things move.
