Ministry of Health documentation support

When a loved one is being brought home to Nigeria, the paperwork required on the Nigerian side can be unfamiliar and, if incomplete, can delay the release of remains. SureRest coordinates that documentation so the family does not have to navigate it alone from abroad.

What this service is

This service covers the documentation required by Nigerian authorities to receive and clear repatriated remains. Common documents include the death certificate, embalming certificate, free-from-infectious-disease certificate, sealing certificate where applicable, the passport of the deceased, consular or embassy authorisation, the Airway Bill, and flight and cargo information. SureRest reviews what has been prepared on the sending side and coordinates whatever is still required on the Nigerian side, including liaison with the Ministry of Health.

Why it matters

For a family grieving abroad, Nigerian regulatory requirements are difficult to interpret from a distance, and requirements can differ depending on the state of final burial. A missing certificate or an incorrectly formatted document can hold up the release of remains at the airport, which is painful and disorienting at an already difficult time. For overseas funeral homes, having a confirmed Nigerian contact who understands what the receiving authorities need removes uncertainty from the handover.

How SureRest handles it

SureRest works through the documentation checklist from the Nigerian side, identifying any gaps against what the sending country has prepared. Where Ministry of Health processing is required in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, or Uyo, SureRest handles that coordination directly. The team communicates with the overseas funeral home or family representative to request any outstanding items in plain language, without bureaucratic jargon, so the right documents travel with the remains.

What to expect

Once SureRest is engaged, a representative will review the documents already in hand and tell the family or funeral home clearly what still needs to be provided and from which side. Updates are given at each stage so there are no unexplained gaps. The goal is that by the time the remains arrive in Nigeria, every required document is in order and the airport clearance process can proceed without unnecessary delay.

We are ready to help you bring them home.
